国際交流について

４月２４日（水）の放課後，今年度最初の地球人カレッジ＠Jotoが開催されました。第１回はアメリカ合衆国テネシー州出身のJames Davis先生を講師に迎え，７０名の生徒が参加し，テネシー州の自然や文化，歴史について学び，交流しました。

The first Global Citizens' College @ Joto meeting was held on April 24, featuring Mr. James Davis from Tennessee, U.S.A. 70 students participated in the interactive event where they learned about the nature, culture and history of Tennessee.

 

まず，グレートスモーキー山脈の雄大な自然の魅力について語ってくれました。

James先生の故郷のガトリンバーグは山に囲まれており，アメリカの人気の保養地の一つだそうです。その豊かな山々や河川にはアメリカグマやシカ，サンショウウオ，シチメンチョウなど多くの生き物が生息していると紹介してくれました。ここでJames先生から問題。ポッサムってどんな動物？スペル書けるかな？

James talked about the magnificent Great Smoky Mountains and about how his hometown, Gatlinburg is one of the most popular vacation spots in the U.S.A. This mountainous region is home to many creatures such as black bears, deers, salamanders, wild turkeys, and opossums.

 

 

 

 

 

地元の食べ物を紹介してくれました。中でも生徒から食べてみたい！と多く声が上がったのが「ワッフル＆チキン」でした。どれもおいしそう！

Among the many delicious local foods he introduced, "waffle and chicken" was the one that caught the attention of the most students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

アメリカ合衆国の，特にテネシー州の歴史や先住民についてもお話してくれました。昔，人々は生活に必要なものをほとんど自分たちで手作りしていたそうです。工芸品としてキルトが有名で，一枚のキルトの制作を多くの人が協力して行い，完成させるのにはとても時間がかかるそうです。

James also talked about the history of the United States, especially Tennessee, and its indigenous people. In the old days, people had to make everyday objects by themselves, and quilts became a famous traditional craft in that region. He said that it takes many people a long time to make one single quilt.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

James先生が紹介してくれたアパラチア地方の文化の中でも多くの生徒が特に興味を持ったのは音楽でした。カントリーミュージックの一種のブルーグラスという音楽が有名で，ヨーロッパやアフリカ，先住民の音楽などの影響を受けているそうです。バンジョーやバイオリンなどの楽器の軽快なリズムに思わず体を動かしたくなる素敵な音楽でした。

Of all the elements of Appalachian culture that James introduced, music was of particular interest to many students. The Appalachian region is famous for bluegrass, a type of country music. It is said to have been influenced by European, African and indigenous music. The light rhythms of the banjos, violins and other instruments made all of us want to move our body.
